Opting Out of Meta AI for Small Businesses

You may have noticed recently that Meta (in other words Facebook or Instagram sent out an email stating that they will be using user content - including photos and captions - to 'improve and develop' their AI tools.

Obviously this is an issue for creative businesses and creative individuals; this will mean that they are taking our intellectual property to generate AI images using our work without providing us any compensation or credit. Essentially the huge global corporation run by billionaires will be stealing from tiny, one person artists and businesses.

The good news is you can opt out of Meta using your content to train their AI. The bad news is it's really stupidly difficult to do so... clearly in the hopes that you won't bother trying.

Have no fear! Your Fairy Loafmother is here to help!

I have just completed the process of opting out of the Meta AI program and here are all the steps for you to follow:

Facebook
While logged in to your Facebook account, visit this link: https://www.facebook.com/help/contact/6359191084165019

You will be brought to a form. Fill in your email address (you will get a code emailed to the address for the final step so make sure you have access to it).

Then answer how this processing impacts you.
I entered that I am a small business and not only is it illegal to use my intellectual property it is also morally wrong for a huge corporation to steal from a small business.

I also threw in that I have a disability that is covered under the Equality Act 2010.

For the additional information I just entered the official name of my business.

You will be brought to a form. Fill in your email address (you will get a code emailed to the address for the final step so make sure you have access to it).

Then I entered the exact same information as above.

Almost immediately I received an email from Meta confirming that they will honour my objection to the new AI process.

Voila, 5 minute job to fight the evils of AI.
